Learn Thai

Duolingo doesn't have Thai. Which app instead?

Duolingo has no Thai course (as of November 2026). If you want to learn Thai on your phone, you need a different app. Which one fits depends on what you want most.

Which kind of app for which goal

GoalKind of app
A guided start with lessons, similar to DuolingoCourse apps with lessons and dialogues
Speaking and listening on the go, eyes off the screenAudio courses
Real conversations with Thai peopleLanguage exchange apps or online tutoring
Vocabulary that sticks, hearing tones, reading the scriptVocabulary and listening trainers with spaced repetition, such as Sawasdee

Many learners combine two of these, for example a course or tutor for structure and a vocabulary trainer for daily words.

How Sawasdee differs from Duolingo

  • Not a game: no hearts, no leagues. Question, answer, feedback, next.
  • FSRS spaced repetition: the app asks the words you are starting to forget instead of fixed lessons.
  • Built for Thai: a tone trainer for the five tones, alphabet and stroke trainers for the script.
  • Audio for every word, including slow playback.
  • Offline and ad-free.
  • Free start: the first 300 words with every trainer, plus the complete alphabet and tone trainers.

What Sawasdee does not offer: video lessons, course-style grammar lessons, or conversations with real people.
